Lawrence Edward and Alice Hart Byrom were sentenced to time in jail in 1985 following a series of 14 robberies of 10 small, North Texas banks between March 1970 and November 1983, including one in Rhome.
The Wise County couple is believed to have collected a total of $494,000 and used techniques similar to Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, earning them the “Modern-day Bonnie and Clyde” moniker.
Lawrence died Oct. 25, 1997, in the United States Medical Center for Federal Prisoners in Springfield, Mo. He is buried in Aurora Cemetery.
