Texas Agrilife Extension Service

The Texas AgriLife Extension Service provides community-based education across the state through 250 county offices and 900 educators, also called Extension agents.

The Wise County office is in Decatur at 206 S. State St., Suite A. The phone number is (940) 627-3341.

Extension agents include:

  • Todd Vineyard, agriculture/natural resources
  • Tanya Davis, family and consumer sciences
  • Chrissy Karrer, 4-H and youth development

Connie Shawn is the program assistant for Better Living for Texans, and she handles nutrition and budgeting education for those with limited resources.

Andrea Calabretta is the 4-H program assistant.

Karrer describes the office as a hub of information with their goal being to provide programming to educate their clientele – the residents of Wise County.

Davis said the area of family and consumer sciences is starting to focus on health and wellness. She organizes a diabetes education program and has started a program called Friend to Friend to educate women over 40 about the importance of obtaining regular mammograms and cervical screenings.

Popular programs also include Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes and Food Safety: It’s Your Business, which is for food service managers.
