Every year Wise Countians open their hearts and their checkbooks to help those less fortunate through the United Way of Wise County Inc.
Since 1979, the United Way has worked to support local charities providing health and human services to Wise County residents. Earlier this year, a significant goal was realized with the opening of the Wise County Community Health Center, the first federally qualified health center in the county.
United Way of Wise County began in 2005 to set aside funds to help start a clinic that would provide an array of medical services to uninsured and underinsured residents. It found a willing suitor in North Texas Area Community Health Centers. Wise Regional Health Center donated space for the center and United Way of Wise County offered start-up funds.
One hundred percent of every dollar donated to the annual fall campaign is allocated to United Way agencies and programs based on need, specific services provided and number of families served, among other considerations. There was $400,000 pledged for the 2012 campaign, which offered funding for 28 non-profits.
Many Wise County companies offer payroll deductions for employees who support United Way. If your employer outside of Wise County offers payroll deduction, and you would like your donation to benefit Wise County, just let them know.
