Wise Hope Shelter and Crisis Center

Wise Hope Shelter and Crisis Center provides safety, strength and hope to victims of family violence and sexual assault: female and male. This provision usually begins with a phone call to the 24-hour Crisis Hotline or a call or visit to local law enforcement.

Those who need a safe place to stay are referred to Wise Hope Shelter, a temporary imminent danger facility that accepts women, children and men. It is a supportive environment geared to helping residents find and utilize resources as they begin to establish a life without violence and trauma.

The shelter is able to pick victims up only if they are in a public place, but law enforcement officers may come to an individual’s house. If the victim is unable to call police, they must go to the closest police department or public place.

The advocates at the outreach office, located at 201 N. Trinity St. in Decatur, are often the first contact for those who find themselves in a difficult and often dangerous situation. It is there that clients are given information about legal options and necessary resources.

Additional support comes free of charge in the form of court and/or law enforcement accompaniment, peer counseling and support groups. The highest level of confidentiality is always maintained.
